FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: Rose Mihaly, rmihaly@burrowspaper.com, +1.860.335.8521

On December 5, Burrows Paper Corporation completed the acquisition of the remaining 75 percent equity interest in Innopak Hong Kong Limited (the investment company that owns 100 percent of Innopak Heshan) from Innopak Holdings Limited. Until recently, Burrows was a 25 percent stakeholder in this joint venture packaging company.

The move further expands Burrows’ ability to provide global customers with worldwide access to premium packaging for their products, company officials stated.

“We are very proud to welcome the Innopak team into the Burrows family,” said Burrows Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President Bill Burrows. “The synergy of our two companies holds great potential for mutually beneficial integration and significant growth opportunities. Through our shared values and commitment to quality, we will achieve our primary goal of providing superior packaging products to our customers, as well as broader opportunities for employees.”

Innopak Heshan is a converter of specialty paper and board-based foodservice packaging products. Innopak’s current offerings include specialized hand carry bags, grease-resistant wraps, color printed clamshells for a variety of food items and more. The company was established in 2007 and its manufacturing facility is located at Longkou, Heshan, Guangdong, China. Stringent Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point systems guide Innopak’s ISO9001:2008 and QS registered operations.

“Burrows has a reputation for being innovators in the foodservice packaging industry,” said Innopak Managing Director Paul Voo. “We look forward to investments that will enable us to further enhance the breadth of our product line and increase efficiency.”

Burrows Paper Corporation is a worldwide supplier of light weight specialty paper and packaging solutions. Integrating nearly 100 years of papermaking expertise into its food packaging line of products, Burrows continues to grow as a family-owned company with an active third-generation owner.

“The acquisition is part of Burrows’ strategic growth plan to meet the needs of companies that have selected Burrows as their preferred supplier for high quality, innovative packaging products,” Burrows said. “Our complementary product lines – from eco-friendly clamshells and wraps to carry-out bags and more – expand offerings for both Burrows and Innopak customers.”

Burrows is headquartered in Little Falls, New York, and operates four paper mills and five converting facilities domestically and abroad – New York, Ohio, Nevada, Iowa, Mississippi and The Netherlands. Its paper mills maintain the highest standards with ISO, HAACP and FSC certifications. Burrows is one of only a few companies capable of producing light weight printable tissue paper from 7.5 to 30 pounds (12.2 to 48.9 gsm). Burrows offers MG and MF paper grades that are used in a variety of applications that include medical and food packaging, as well as many industrial grade papers.

FORT MADISON, IOWA — Burrows Paper Corporation’s Fort Madison, Iowa, operations recently reflected on the benefits of its relationship with the Industrial Maintenance Technology (InTech) program at Southeastern Community College (SCC).

“These employees have received an education that allowed them to hit the ground running here at Burrows,” said President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Lengvarsky. “The advanced skills they possess have provided us with a superior technical team. We are very fortunate to have such a valuable program with very talented individuals so close.”

Burrows currently employs five individuals who have participated in this program. Developed to prepare individuals as plant maintenance technicians, it teaches the technical skills to maintain and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical industrial systems, and is a great local asset to Burrows Paper Corporation.

“Graduates of the program have studied pneumatics, hydraulics, industrial electricity, motors, drives and have dabbled in programming drives,” said Joe Panther, Plant Manager, Fort Madison Facility. “These are the exact technical skills needed to keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently.”

Employees that have participated in the InTech program include:
•	Doug Languell, maintenance mechanic
•	Marty Sedore, maintenance mechanic
•	Kevin Marlin, maintenance mechanic
•	Jim Daw, maintenance supervisor
•	Jimmy Wilson, gluer former mechanic

“Burrows has been one of our strong partners from the beginning and we are always looking to them for their feedback on how to make the program stronger,” said Andy Snaadt, Industrial Technology Instructor, SCC. “It’s a great asset to have the local industries supporting the program and trying to make it the best we can.”

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Burrows Paper Corporation was recently recognized for its ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices by AEP Ohio, a unit of one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.

Outdated lighting fixtures at its Mt. Vernon, Ohio, facility were replaced with new, energy-efficient models, reducing energy use by 375,835 kWh per year and carbon dioxide emissions by 321.6 tons. This equates to roughly 51 cars taken off the road annually.

“Our commitment to environmentally-friendly business practices demonstrates Burrows’ long-held belief that we have a duty to reduce our carbon footprint and demonstrate to our customers that we truly care about the viability of the environment,” said President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Lengvarsky.
Burrows maintains a strong commitment to energy reduction, and the use of renewable energy whenever possible. Company renewable energy initiatives include the use of 210 photovoltaic panels at its headquarters in Little Falls, N.Y. and geothermal heating capabilities at its manufacturing facility in Pickens, Miss. The company also operates hydroelectric energy assets that generate power equal to 2/3 of the amount needed to run all of its manufacturing facilities.

Burrows’ approach to reducing its carbon footprint also extends to reducing its total consumption of energy through upgrading its equipment with more efficient technologies. In its papermaking operations, Burrows has successfully reduced the amount of energy required to produce an average pound of paper by 25% over the past 6 years.

LITTLE FALLS, NY — Burrows Paper Corporation has completed work on the extensive rebuild of its #41 paper machine in Pickens, MS.
The project was completed in December and included the installation of a new 15’ MG cylinder and integrated MG hood, custom built by global-engineering company Metso Paper. Substantial foundation and structural work was required for the new MG (machine glaze) paper machine. A new winder was also installed to accommodate the increased speed and output of the paper machine. The newly rebuilt MG paper machine stands two stories tall and is nearly 150 feet long.

President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Lengvarsky said the project represents a significant investment by the company and a strong vote of confidence in the employees at the mill.

“Our customers will benefit from faster order fulfillment, the introduction of new grades of paper, industry-leading sheet quality, and competitive pricing,” Lengvarsky said. “In addition, the new machine requires less energy to operate, meaning we have successfully enhanced our production process while reducing our impact on the environment.”

Burrows operates five paper machines in four mills throughout New York State and Mississippi, maintaining the highest standards with ISO and FSC certifications. Burrows is one of only a few companies capable of producing very light weight printable tissue paper from 7.5 pounds up to 30 pounds. Burrows offers MG and MF paper grades that are used in a variety of applications that include medical and food packaging, as well as many industrial grade papers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BURROWS PAPER CORPORATION RECEIVES ISO CERTIFICATION

CONTACT: Margaret Goldman; 315-266-1744, mgoldman@burrowspaper.com

LITTLE FALLS, NY — Burrows Paper Corporation continued its long history of quality manufacturing with the recent ISO9001: 2008 certification of its Lyonsdale paper mill and Little Falls headquarters offices.

Certification acknowledges Burrows, a world leader in light weight paper and packaging, as achieving the standards for quality and efficiency set by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO certification confirms that the manufacturing process is consistent and there are systems in place for continuous improvement, guaranteeing customers the highest-quality product.

Mike Lengvarsky, President and Chief Operating Officer, said this certification reflects Burrows’ commitment to meeting and exceeding the expectations of its customers. “We understand that our customers have unique needs and rely on our superior paper to produce an exceptional final product,” Lengvarsky said. “Our customers can be certain that we manufacture with the utmost attention to detail. Our Quality Management System incorporates best practices within our industry and is focused on proactive measures to meet quality requirements, ensuring consistency of product.”

Burrows received the certifications following a rigorous audit of the design, development, and manufacturing processes of its paper. The company expects to complete ISO certification at all of its paper mills by 2015.

“Commitment to quality throughout the company is a priority,” Lengvarsky said. “As Burrows continues to expand its reach globally, the engagement of our employees in making enhancements to our quality system represents our promise to continue implementing these ever-important standards that serve as an international benchmark.”

LITTLE FALLS, NY — Burrows Paper Corporation is pleased to announce its recent Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification.
This certification recognizes that Burrows, a world leader in light weight paper and packaging, procures all wood pulp for papermaking from responsible, legal and traceable sources.

Burrows also recently received Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certification and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), further demonstrating Burrows’ dedication to sustainable forestry.

Mike Lengvarsky, President and Chief Operating Officer, said certification reflects Burrows’ commitment to eco-friendly business practices while Making Paper Perform™. “We have a deep sense of responsibility to our customers and the environment,” Lengvarsky said. “We understand that customers have high standards for their paper and packaging needs and appreciate that our company’s processes have a meaningful and positive impact while fulfilling those needs. It is our duty to ensure that the superior quality and integrity of our products begins with the very pulp it is made from.”

Burrows received the certifications for its paper mills in Mississippi and New York following a rigorous, several-months-long process, including a three-day audit by Bureau Veritas, an independent and accredited certifier. The standards for certification address issues such as old growth forests, endangered species, water quality, chemical use, forest conversion, rights of indigenous peoples, genetic modification, and clear cutting.

“Burrows employees are active supporters of sound forestry practices and feel very proud about the certifications achieved. In addition to benefiting the environment, it also helps sustain and grow a critical source of material for our industry and the markets we serve.”

LITTLE FALLS, NY — Burrows Paper Corporation has begun work on two capital projects at its paper mill in Pickens, MS.

The first undertaking, an extensive rebuild of its #41 paper machine will include installing a new 15’ Yankee dryer custom built by global-engineering company Metso Paper. The nearly 60-year-old MG (machine glaze) paper machine will take an estimated 35 days to be rebuilt. A significant amount of preparation work must be completed, including substantial foundation work to support the new machine. A new winder has already been installed to accommodate the increased speed and output of the paper machine. The newly rebuilt MG paper machine will be two stories tall and nearly 150 feet long. The entire rebuild is scheduled for completion before year-end.

The second project, to be implemented concurrently, involves installation of heating and ventilation units with the ability to utilize geothermal energy for heating and cooling the mill. This project will increase use of renewable energy and reduce reliance on carbon based energy, resulting in lower production costs and improved profitability.

President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Lengvarsky said these projects represent a significant achievement for the company. Both the rebuilt paper machine’s more efficient use of energy for production and the utilization of geothermal energy demonstrate the company’s commitment to green practices.

“These projects highlight the innovative and environmentally conscious philosophy we bring to our work every day,” Lengvarsky said. “We believe it’s possible to simultaneously enhance our production process and reduce our impact on the environment.” The upgraded paper machine will directly impact both the quality and quantity of paper the mill is able to produce. “The modernization of this paper machine means that we can make paper at faster speeds and reduced cost, make additional grades of paper that we can’t make today, and enhance the quality and performance of our paper,” Lengvarsky said. Burrows’ Manager of Energy Services, Michael McCormick, said the use of geothermal energy to heat the facility will result in a 4 percent reduction in the use of natural gas, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 342 tons per year. The geothermal process extracts heat from water after its use in the production process, as the water is heated to upwards of 100 degrees. Normally, this water would go through a cooling process before it’s released back into the environment. With the geothermal process in place, much less cooling is required, and the energy is captured and reused.

“This is a unique project,” McCormick explained. “Most geothermal heat is drawn from steam; however, we are extracting heat directly from the well water we use during production.”

The geothermal project is funded in part with federal stimulus funds for renewable energy projects issued through the Mississippi Development Authority.
